My team just finished touch and handed out player of the day when our coach told us there were trials for a city touch team that was going to play in a tournament in inglewood. we would practise every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30. We would face the mixed team every practise and sometimes win.
Then the tournament day was here and my dad drove me out to inglewood to play unfortunately it was pouring down with rain but the game had to go on it was freezing and we had to wear touch singlets for playing in.
It was time for the first game against Hawera they tapped off and were doing 3 man drives up the field and were gaining loads of ground until a player in our team accidentally missed a touch and they scored a try it was a bit unfortunate at the end of the game we lost about 3 tries to 1 it was probably showing how cold it was since the other team all had thermal tops underneath.
We had a 30 minute break until our next game we had set up a gazebo before the match where we could keep dry and have a snack.
It was time for the next game against north taranaki which is around Bell Block and Lepperton school this time it was our turn to tap and we did that we were doing 3 mans up the field and making ground. Then one of my teammates passed the ball to me and I saw a gap I dummied it and ran through the gap and scored a try for my team I was covered in grass. 5/5/16 We ran back to the half way and we tapped off we did 3 man drive I went into dummy My teammate went runner and my other teammate went first receiver we kept repeating that to make more and more ground then we started to play tactical and doing cuts and moves to try score, Finally after two more touches we scored in the corner and we were winning. We were at the halfway line we tapped of for the second time and again we did 3 man drives up the field we made enough ground to make it to the try line and we scored. It started to seem like it was 1 for 1 tries. North Taranaki tapped but they were not doing 3 man drives up the field all they were doing was running up the field they were too good and they scored it was 5-6 too them we tried to score an equaliser but we ran out of time we. we went back to the side line and we all put towels around us and we were freezing luckily it was our last game and we could put our warm clothes on and jackets. We went under the gizebo and had snacks and drinks. The tournament was over and we all headed home our coach sent us a message that the Taranaki touch team was announced. Me and my mum looked on the website and on the site for the touch team and it had a list of boys and on the list was 13 boys and Me.
